Ah....not just lyrics from The Clash, but it's something that's resonating a lot in my life at the moment.
I've been at my company for three and a half years. In that time I did a lateral transfer to another department after six months to end up working for a total bitch of a manager who got in my face and decided to put me on the worst job she and her boss could think of the first time I made a mistake.
I worked there until I got so stressed from getting hours cut and doing the same bullshit day in and day out that I ended up in the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack.
Thankfully, I had a good rapport with my old director, and was able to transfer back. Sure it meant a dollar less pay but not having to deal with the hell which was my boss and her boss was a relief. Turns out the bitch got her just desserts as she got let go in a massive purge, but more about that in a bit.
Here I am two years later. We've switched managers, I've been through several bosses, and I've been turned down for two promotions, one because I'm not "cool under pressure"(despite getting high marks from the company on customer satisfaction" and another because I wasn't "consistent" enough.
Then comes the restructure. Hours were cut in August and the big purge next door happened. Lots of people let go.
I start hitting up Indeed and LinkedIn. I've had some employers completely ghost on me, and I've gotten the standard rejection.
The really sucky thing is my parents think I should stay, and that I'm sure because I'm well liked, I'll get a promotion someday.
The kicker with that was I was let go in a massive restructure in 2014 and I was one of the first to get the axe. No one, not even my coworkers saw that coming, and they were all shocked that I got let go. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise as my mom was fighting cancer at the time. I ended up meeting my wife that year.
This blog post comes on the heels of having an awesome interview with a produce company in a western Chicago suburb. The interviewer was super chill and she liked my typing skills.
We'll see...
Take it easy and thanks for reading.

Greetings and salutations!
Hello everyone!
So you're probably perusing this and wondering who is "Downvote Dave?"
Well, Dave is my name, and Downvote Dave was my nickname from being a frequent poster on PostGradProblems, the website all about life, liberty and the pursuit of happy hour.
So about me: I'm 32, I live in the western suburbs of Chicago, and I am currently the guy who sells you flowers for a living, but I'm not a florist.
I'm married to my wife of two years, Megan. I have three cats that live at my parents, Dominik, Barney and Jessica.
My interests include cars, sports, and target shooting.
Not sure exactly where I'm going to go with this blog, but we'll see where we end up. As of right now I'm thinking a mishmash of life topics and maybe my experiences with some of the above.
Feel free to follow me on Instagram @dave11686 and Twitter @dave11686 (I check the former more often than the latter.)
Thanks for reading, take it easy!
